Our Mission
The goal of the Deporte and Desafio Foundation
is the social integration of physically, mentally, visually and/or
hearing challenged people through specially adapted sports and outdoor
activities. By integrating people into sports programs, the Foundation
can help disabled people gain more freedom, increase their independence,
and along with their families, help them discover their social,
mental and athletic potential.

What type of organization is Deporte and Desafio Foundation?
Founded in 1998, the D& D Foundation is a private, non-profit, apolitical organization which is authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. It began with one program for snow skiing and now has grown to include over 400 participants involved in programs throughout the year encompassing seven different sports. The sports activities are financed thanks to donations from foundations, private companies and individuals. |

What sports does the Foundation promote?
An extensive range of sports activities are offered all year long including: downhill and cross-country skiing, sailing, waterskiing, sailing, cycling, scuba diving, golf, horseback riding and camps. Each year, new sports are added as well as new locations secured for increased participation. The D&D Foundation offers specially adapted equipment as well as trains instructors specifically for each sport. |

The Primary Focus
•
Subsidize the cost of activities that are offered
• Purchase and maintenence of the specially adapted sports
equipment used at D&D events
• Train personnel and volunteers how to appropriately assist
people
• Consult to eliminate architectural barriers of sports facilities
• Disseminate information and technical advise to disabled
people, their families and related organizations
• Promote these sports activities in Spain via conferences,
classes, exhibitions, competitions and other appropriate mediums
of communication
• Seek sources for financial assistance and donations to
subsidize D&D sports

Who can Participate?
People of all ages who are physically or
mentally challenged and/or visually or hearing impaired that would
like to participate in the programs and sports offered. Also,
families and friends are encouraged to collaborate during the
class/season.
After these few years of existence, the
D&D Foundation has had more than 600 participants with various
types of disabilities involved in the sports programs. This includes
paraplegics, tetraplegics, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclorosis,
amputees, blind, deaf, hearing and/or visually impaired, cerebral
palsy, down syndrome, autism and mentally challenged people involved
in the activities.
