Alvaro del Castaño, will participate for the first time in a marathon.
Alvaro is an avid sportsman, but has never been a running fan. Riding on
his different boards (windsurf, kite surf, snowboard, wake) or on his
titanium bicycle, he has cruised many waves, slopes and mountains. He
has now decided to change surface: Rotterdam's tarmac. He recently
completed his first 10km run through the streets of Madrid, finishing
completely exhausted but with a big smile in his face. Hooked-in to the
sport now, and trained by former Spanish marathon record holder Rodrigo
Gavela, he is determined to achieve three objectives by running this
event. The first one is to raise as much money as possible for the
foundation "Deporte y Desafio" among his friends and Goldman Sachs
colleagues. "Deporte y Desafio" is a foundation aiming to achieve the
social integration of handicapped people through the promotion of
sports. Programs include ski (snow and water), sailing, diving, golf,
cycling and horse riding. Alvaro's second objective is to finish the
marathon without any injury. The last and more ambitious is to complete
the event below 4 hours...and above all enjoy the challenge!
